Hello Plant Science People,

Welcome back to the new academic year and welcome back to a new seminar of People in Plant Science. This seminar series highlights topics beyond the science we love, to create a space for the one thing we all have in common – being humans.

26th September, 9.30am (Forum, Room B0767) Seminar: Family life and a career in academia – the male perspective

Are you surprised by the title? Intrigued? – Then this seminar is for you, no matter the gender!

The question “How do you combine your work/ career in academia with having children?” is a question that women are asked a lot. But having a child is (ideally) a decision of two partners together and more men want to take parental leave or see themselves as an equally responsible partner in childcare. In this panel discussion we will hear the male perspective on having children and if or how that is compatible with working in academia (moving cities or countries every couple of years, sometimes long working days, job insecurity – just to name a few potential problems). Let’s see if men and women struggle with the same things and what solutions there may be to make use of the flexibility a job in academia brings while being aware of all its difficulties.

This seminar is for you and with you, so bring your own questions, participate in the discussion and feel free to share this with other interested folks.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Katharina
