During this week, attention will be given to requirements and potential advances in data science applied to environmental science in various events. Education, Data Management, Infrastructure, and Value Creation will be discussed and investigated. Crash courses, a data sprint, workshops, a documentary and an Exchange Market in the agenda. The international ISESS Conference is part of this week. ISESS participants are welcome to join the Wageningen Data Science Week and vice versa.
Monday 3 February

09.00 – 17.00 Crash course Machine Learning for beginners / Aalt-Jan van Dijk and Gert Kootstra
This course includes various aspects of machine learning. Examples are decision trees, linear regression, neural networks, Brix prediction and casus regression.
The maximum number of participants is 40. If you have been accepted, you will receive a confirmation of admission by email. Please bring your own case. A lunch will be provided around 12.00.
09.00 – 17.00 Crash Course: Data Science in R by Ioannis Baltzakis and Alejandro Morales Sierra from R Academy
Consists of 2 parts:
09.00 – 12.00 R for Data Science
13.00 – 17.00 From messy data to interactive dashboards with R
The maximum number of participants of the afternoon workshop is 35. If you have been selected, you will receive a confirmation of admission by email. Participating the lecture in the morning is obliged for this course. A lunch will be provided for all participants of the afternoon session.
In the crash course morning session the registered participants will learn the basics of using R for data science. In the afternoon we will follow along a workflow that will take them from messy dataset to an interactive report. Reports are an integral part of the data science workflow as they can provide quick and valuable insights to your data, for data driven decision making.
Tuesday 4 February
09.00 – 21.00 FAIR Data Sprint / Erik van den Bergh
The FAIR data sprint will be a Bring-Your-Own-Data event where the goal will be to register and store FAIR data. During the sprint, participants will get hands-on experience in transforming their own data into FAIR data, learning about the standards and practical techniques along the way. Working together in small groups will allow participants to benefit from group knowledge to contribute to the goal of the FAIR data sprint: To submit as much FAIR data as possible in 12 hours!
The maximum number of participants is 40. If you have been selected, you will receive a confirmation of admission by email. Lunch, dinner, drinks and bites will be provides during the day.
