GET2GETHER 2020 – annual EPS PhD days

This two-day event will take place on the 10th and 11th of February 2020, at the StayOkay Hostel in Soest (same location as previous years). We have prepared an exciting programme with several keynote speakers and perspective talks by inspiring professionals in varying stages of their careers, as well as a selection of workshops and social games and activities to meet and bond with your fellow PhDs in plant sciences. As usual, we will have a PhD party on Monday night! For those interested, there is an opportunity to share your own research in the form of a presentation or a pitch.
6 workshops to choose from:
1. Time Management for PhDs
PhD life can be overwhelming. The workshop Time Management will teach you some tools to help you balance all aspects of your PhD research project.
2. Intercultural Communication
The international environment at Dutch universities may pose challenges when different cultures meet. This workshop helps you understand how people communicate in different cultures, providing tools to improve your interaction with international colleagues.
3. Introduction to R
The program R is very useful for data analysis and visualisation, but may be challenging to work with. This workshop provides a basic introduction to R, and is an old favourite of the Get2Gether. Bring your laptop!
4. Introduction to InDesign
The program InDesign can be used for the design of your figures and thesis cover. This new workshop will teach you the basics of using InDesign for research purposes. Bring your laptop with InDesign already installed (this should be available via your university).
5. Literature Management
This new workshop will teach you some time-saving tools for literature management. Learn to use RSS feeds to automatically send yourself new relevant literature, and Endnote or Mendeley to organize your literature and citations. Bring your laptop
6. The art of presenting yourself
Being aware of how you act during presentations, discussions and job interviews can drastically change your success. Knowing how to control and steer your behavior in such situations can earn you a grant, job, or just hard-earned recognition from your peers. In this workshop, an acting coach will teach you how to use theatre skills so you can improve your performance for the next great opportunity on your path.
Practical matters:
This 2-day event is organized by the EPS PhD council, and includes a stay-over at the StayOkay Hostel.
Attendance on both days is required to obtain the ECs for your TSP.
We will arrange a bus from WUR campus to the StayOkay in Soest on Monday morning, and back on Tuesday afternoon.
The costs of attending the Get2Gether, including the stay-over at the StayOkay and the arranged bus from WUR to the event location, are covered by EPS for EPS PhD candidates with an approved TSP.
However, a fee will apply in case of no-show or cancellation past the due date on the 13th of January 2020.
