Plants cells are continuously exposed to mechanical stress during growth and development. The mechanical forces are converted via a complex feedback loop into chemical signals, ultimately leading to changes in gene activity. In this project, at the interface of biology, physics and mechanics, the researchers will decipher this so-called mechanostat, to understand how the laws of physics and mechanics steer plant development.
