Sjon Hartman from the University Utrecht is on of the 16 starting science talents that received the Rubicon. For two years he will join the Gibbs Lab of the University of Birmingham, UK. Research by the host Gibbs lab has shown that VRN2 is a flooding-responsive protein that controls epigenetic regulation and confers flooding stress tolerance in plants . Sjon will investigate how the memory protein VRN2 controls flooding tolerance in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana by elucidating VRN2 regulation and its role on (epi)genetic adaptation during flooding stress.
